Kirkby Town 6-2 Sycamore Saints - abandoned after 80 mins

Venue: The Summit Centre, Kirkby-In-Ashfield, 19th January 2014.

Mid January - Kirkby had only played 4 league games prior to kick off and had won all of them, whilst their opponents had played 11 with 6 victories and were sitting at the top of the Notts Sunday League Premier One table with 20 points.

Kirkby were under a little pressure in the first few minutes, but any nerves the home team had were eased slightly on 12 when KEIRAN WATSON put them in front.  The same player doubled the lead for Town from the spot four minutes later. WATSON completed his hat-trick with a minute of the first half remaining, latching on to a neat through pass before delicately lifting the ball over the visiting keeper. H-T 3-0

The Sycamore no.16 had reduced their arrears within 5 minutes of the restart, but KRIS WATSON restored the three goal lead on 57. KEIRAN WATSON added his  fourth and Kirkby's fifth seconds later, but the Saints came back and added their second in the 65th minute. The brothers WATSON all got their name on the score sheet - NATHAN adding Kirkby's sixth on 74.

Kirkby keeper Steve Boot was clipped by a trailing leg as he dived to cut out the next Saints attack.  Boot did not react well to this clip and confronted the offending player. This lead to a bit of push and shove, but soon after it turned into a full scale mass brawl with fists flying everywhere.  Fair play to the Ref -- stepping away while the players/managers tried to sort it out - but after peace couldn't be restored, his only option for the safety of the players was to abandon the game with 80 played.  The result should stand - Kirkby were good for their lead and with 10 to play it was doubtful Sycamore could get anything from the game.

The reverse fixture is in three weeks - I hope the League can ensure there are League Officials present - I certainly won't be! F-T 6-A-2
