Kirkby Town 6-2 Sycamore Saints - abandoned after 80 mins

Venue: The Summit Centre, Kirkby-In-Ashfield, 19th January 2014.

Mid January - Kirkby had only played 4 league games prior to kick off and had won all of them, whilst their opponents had played 11 with 6 victories and were sitting at the top of the Notts Sunday League Premier One table with 20 points.

Kirkby were under a little pressure in the first few minutes, but any nerves the home team had were eased slightly on 12 when KEIRAN WATSON put them in front.  The same player doubled the lead for Town from the spot four minutes later. WATSON completed his hat-trick with a minute of the first half remaining, latching on to a neat through pass before delicately lifting the ball over the visiting keeper. H-T 3-0

The Sycamore no.16 had reduced their arrears within 5 minutes of the restart, but KRIS WATSON restored the three goal lead on 57. KEIRAN WATSON added his  fourth and Kirkby's fifth seconds later, but the Saints came back and added their second in the 65th minute. The brothers WATSON all got their name on the score sheet - NATHAN adding Kirkby's sixth on 74.

Kirkby keeper Steve Boot was clipped by a trailing leg as he dived to cut out the next Saints attack.  Boot did not react well to this clip and confronted the offending player. This lead to a bit of push and shove, but soon after it turned into a full scale mass brawl with fists flying everywhere.  Fair play to the Ref -- stepping away while the players/managers tried to sort it out - but after peace couldn't be restored, his only option for the safety of the players was to abandon the game with 80 played.  The result should stand - Kirkby were good for their lead and with 10 to play it was doubtful Sycamore could get anything from the game.

The reverse fixture is in three weeks - I hope the League can ensure there are League Officials present - I certainly won't be! F-T 6-A-2

Saturday 18 January 2014

Hucknall Town 3-0 Calverton MW

Venue: Watnall Road, Hucknall.

Scorers: Bonnick (44), Davidson (60), Aikman (65)

Thanks to Town coach Paul Stevenson for the line-ups. He walked halfway around the ground to ensure I had a copy - so thought I'd better write a few words.

Goal details:

Throughout most of the first half, neither team could string any passes together. The one time Town managed to successfully to find their fellow Yellows was in the 44th minute, and they took the lead. COURTNEY BONNICK was at the end of the passing move, firing a 22 yard curler past Calverton keeper Luke Cook. H-T 1-0

On the hour mark, the home team grabbed a second after a mad scramble in the box - CAMERON DAVIDSON prodding home from 2 yards, the skipper keeping his head while all those around him lost theirs.

4 minutes later came the goal of the game. From wide right, Nick Morgan played the ball down the line for Bonnick to race onto. The striker fired the ball across the face of the goal and LEON AIKMAN running in, had the simple task of side-footing past Cook. F-T 3-0

Admission: £2 (concession)

Programme: £1

Attendance: Head count 81 - very creditable for a CML game

Referee: Aiden Coleman. Did okay, but needs to crack down a little on verbal abuse -  especially when it's directed at him!

Eastwood Town 2-2 Carlton Town

Venue: Coronation Park, Chewton Street, Eastwood.

Scorers-
Badgers: Coulson (5), Archbold (65)
Millers: Ruben Wiggins-Thomas (18), Troke (74)

Great see a few old faces back at CP...Paul MacFarland, John Adams and Kelvin Mushambi to name but three...

It made our afternoon when we managed to grab a chat with Julian Topliss, who is now on the slow road to recovery after a viscious, mindless attack left the Carlton Town player in a very serious and critical condition. Here's hoping we will soon be seeing Julian back on the pitch where he belongs.

Goals:
Eastwood scored first on 5, a Josh Schofield corner met with a powerful header by an unmarked JACK COULSON 6 yards from goal.

Carlton levelled in the 18th minute, RUBEN WIGGINS-THOMAS glancing a header past Wayne Smith from a cracking Ben FLYNN cross.

Eastwood went back in front after 65 minutes, SHAUN ARCHBOLD curling a superb 22 yard free-kick past Jonathon Viscosi in the Carlton goal.

The Millers were level with 74 played, this time former Badger ALEX TROKE emulating Archbold, firing his free-kick over the wall and into the top corner, giving Smith no chance.
